Academic Superbowl
English

The Academic Superbowl for English is a competition held near the end of the school year on a Saturday morning. It is held at Sarah Scott Middle School.
Each year, a theme is chosen. Students participating on the English team will have one or two novels to read. They will study literary terms. Practices take place after school until 4:30. Practices usually begin in November/December. -
Battle of the Books
Sponsor: Mrs. Williams
The Vigo County School Corporation hosts the Middle School Battle of the Books every year in the spring. Each middle school forms a team of 5 to 10 students who read the 20 books on the Young Hoosier Book Award Middle Grade list.

Math Team

The Academic Superbowl for Math is a competition held towards the end of the school year on a Saturday morning. It is held at Sarah Scott Middle School.
Each year, a theme is chosen. Students participating on the Math team practice together throughout the week.Practices take place before school. They will study higher level math skills. Practices usually begin in November/December. -
Math Counts
Sponsor: Teresa Carter
Math counts in a nationwide competition for 6-8th grade students. There is a sum fun competition held at the administration building in November to show students what to expect and then the local math counts competition is held in February at Rose Hulman on a Saturday morning. The competition consists of four rounds, sprint round, target round, team round, and countdown round. Students may use a calculator on the team round and target round.
